Thoughs on CeBIT 2010
Last week three of my colleagues an I drove from Munich to Hannover to visit CeBIT. This was my first time at CeBIT so outside of knowing that its a huge exhibit and the little that I read on their website, I didn't have anything else to go on. CeBIT is the world's largest trade fair showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions for home and work environments. The key target groups are users from industry, the wholesale/retail sector, skilled trades, banks, the services sector, government agencies, science and all users passionate about technology. CeBIT offers an international platform for comparing
Google Apps Marketplace, Now Open
Now third-party cloud-based apps can supplement Google’s internal online apps. With 50 vendors including Zoho, NetSuite, Skytap, and Atlassian participating in this program a new level of business-to-business marketing seems to have materialized. The idea behind this launch is “to help users get more applications for Google Apps from third-party developers”, according to Google senior [...]
360 Flex Day 3 Recap
With the final day of of 360 Flex behind us, I give some short synopsis of the presentations I attended and some thoughts on the general trends in 360 Flex as a whole.
New iPhone/Web Game: Racked.
A little Rubik’s cube, a little Pool action, a little strategy, and you’ve got Racked! The cool thing about Racked is that I came up with it by putting our pool balls on a wire grid and making it up with my daughter Riley – we ended up playing for 3hrs straight the first night. I [...]

Nate Beck’s Birthday Surprise at 360 Flex
Payback’s a Queen! Nate got a special surprise in the middle of his session at 360|Flex. This should teach you a) don’t fuck with me and b) don’t do a presentation on your birthday. Happy birthday Nate! P.S. Apologies for the shaky camera work, there were plenty of other video cameras in the room recording (including the [...]

Flex Flint Particles Editor with Node Based UI
Following some feedback on my first release of ParticleLab 2.0, I decided to rebuild my node based user interface from the ground up. I feel the main issue with my original node based particle editor was the sheer size of the nodes meant navigating through the scenes was quite an unfriendly experience. To that end, I've stuck with the detail panel but added a node based UI for navigation and selection. This now offers an immediate view of the entire scene and illustrates the relationships between all the objects. Although the UI doesn't yet allow users to create relationships, it can

My slides but not the code made it up on the 360Flex usb drive, I didn’t figure that out until today when I was giving my talk. So my talk at 360Flex in San Jose was called: OptimizeIt - Actionscript tips for iPhone games. It really is a bunch of Actionscript optimizations and some of the [...]

Great UX meets the Cloud and the Semantic Web....
Last month at TED, Gary Flake showcased "Pivot", which is an incredible visualization approach to navigating large sets of data on the web. If you've seen the Seadragon demonstrations before, you'll recognize this as a novel application of Seadragon. There a number of reasons this demo catches me - it's a weaving together of so many things that are current for me right now, namely innovation through user-experience design, thinking about Cloud technology as a platform for innovation and the Semantic Web as a trend upon Cloud technology that is going to fundamentally alter our ability to transact on the...
